November 6th, 2005 RallyCross at the Altamont Racetrack on a 2-minute course with 2 short pavement transitions. Dave, driving his trusty Rally-Stock Subaru WRX like a crazed maniac, beat ALL 17 cars in the 'Rally Stock 4WD' class, and ALL 18 cars in the higher-level 'Rally Modified 4WD' class!!! Even beat 3 of 5 other cars in 'Open Class 4WD' class.
Sep 16, 2006...fast forward 10 months to Antioch...there's nowhere to go but down from #1!! Dave had just as much fun, but placed 5th of 18 (in 'Rally Stock') and 8th of 30 (if including the car classification above 'Rally Stock') in a Subaru-DOMINATED field! It was 85% Subarus!
Garett (in his 2006 WRX wagon) and Nancy (using Dave's car) had a blast at their first rallycross event!
WRX new (2002) vs WRX now (mid-2006)...uhhh, just rims, low-profile tires, and headlights...and a few new dings and dents =) Performance mods include straight pipe instead of muffler, Cobb Accessport engine tuner, and an uber-short-shifter:
January 27. The Pleasanton trailer boat show is always a good time. Cam loved 'piloting' a 38' yacht.
June 18. Checked out the new and improved Altamont Racetrack (Livermore) with new Figure 8 and mini-road course. Boo, not enough dirt was left for rallycrossin' =(
July 8. Formula D drift competition at Infineon Raceway (Sonoma).
July 23rd. I-Club 5th annual Mt. Hamilton Impreza meet...300 Subaru Imprezas (1998-2006) in one place!
August 2006. We bought a used boat for a great deal! '99 Yamaha Exciter jet boat. Seats 5. Why now, just before a 2nd kid? This is a rare breed of boat in terms of waterjet-powered small boats that were only made in the mid-late 90s. The newer models are bigger, heavier, and with too much horsepower/speed for a young family. So we found one that was in pristine condition before it is 'too late'...plus it was a great deal!
August 12 Autocross event in Marina (north of Monterey). Garett brought his brand-new WRX wagon. Aaron brought his slick black Prelude.
Aug 28. Dave got to test drive a Bentley Continental GT coupe...with a 500 horsepower V12 engine and a price tag that would buy half-a-dozen new loaded WRXs!!
