NEW on Labor Day, 2003 July 11-13, 2003 This year's 4th group camping trip was once again at Lake Tahoe! This must mean it is an annual tradition or something! To keep it fresh, we booked sites at D.L. Bliss State Park, where we haven't been since 2000. And instead of the group site, we snagged four prime Beach sites. These are a mere 100 yards from the beach! We had a record 29 people join us for this trip!! Apologies if we didn't get good pics of everyone. CLICK ON THE PICS to ENLARGE, then hit BACK on your browser to return. D.L. Bliss State Park Campground is ALL ABOUT THE BEACH:
Our group trips are also ALL ABOUT EATING! We always have a potluck on Saturday evening (1st row), followed by S'more making (3rd row):
And there are miles of scenic hiking trails directly leading from the campground (1st row, Rubicon Trail, 2nd row, Eagle Creek Falls, 3rd row, Emerald Bay):
And don't forget, lots of playing and hanging out at camp too! This was Eileen & kids 1st time camping (1st picture) ever! In the 3rd picture, Kyra is crying because the tent is being taken down and her fun weekend is ending.
We took Highway 88 home. This is a super-scenic alternate route that puts you in Stockton at Highway 5. Though longer in distance, it bypasses the Sacramento backup, so timewise it is the same. Did we mention it is scenic?! We did some Class 3 off-roading too, and found some snowboarders who disagreed with Dave (in shorts/sandals/tank top) that winter was over:
