NEW on September 9th, 2002 This year's annual group camping trip was once again at Lake Tahoe! In previous years, we've been to group sites at Sugar Pine Point State Park and DL Bliss State Park on the west shore. To keep it fresh, we went to Nevada Beach Campground on the east shore of the lake, a coupla miles north of the Stateline casinos. Though many of them managed to avoid the camera, Wai, Dave, Linda, Nick, Sue, Paul, Sherry, Kyra, Boihon, Andy, Wai, E.J., Nancy, and Tim were all there. Wai, Linda, and Dave spent Friday afternoon offroading in Wai's hopped-up Jeep on some rough trails on the steeps along the lake's east shore:
We caught a gorgeous sunset from the campgrounds just before heading out to the nearby a buffet at Stateline: This was Kyra's first time camping! She loved it and was gurgly happy the whole time! She got her 1st flashlight from...Uncle Dave of course!
On Saturday, we checked out the neat cross-section of an actual creek on the Rainbow Trail: Nick & Sue did a little bit of snorkeling. They saw lots of...sand: The big event was catching 180 crayfish in a couple of hours at the Cave Rock breakwater.
Some of the crayfish had obviously escaped from the craycircus: Circus talents notwithstanding, all of the crayfish were boiled in a large stainless steel bucket in the orange-hot campfire, and there was a big crayfish-eating session after the big potluck dinner:
So on top of a big potluck dinner, we sat around at 10pm and ate crayfish and s'mores:
Paul, being the weird artist type, and Nick, being the weird artist-assistant-type, and Dave, being the weird digital camera gadget geek, created Weird Art using time lapse, motion, and flashlights:
On Sunday, after the camp host wandered off, Dave fired up the 1/10 scale nitromethane-powered radio-control buggy for a noisy spin around the campgrounds: And we spent lots of time lazing or throwing a football at Nevada Beach, especially Linda and Nancy: |
