This page NEW on January 25th, 2003 On Oct 12-14, 2002, Dave and Linda embarked on our 15th backpacking trip. Believe it or not, this was the FIRST backpacking trip to date that included only the two of us! It was a different experience! But we certainly missed Wai (who has made it on 13 of 15 backpacking trips but is currently busy working in Oregon) and other backpackin' friends. Unlike in the SF-Bay Area, we actually were able to experience this season called "Autumn" when we headed to Lakes Basin Wilderness, 80 miles north of Lake Tahoe. The leaves were turning blazing red & orange: Our hike involved a climb of 1000', but only a mild distance of 4 miles. The weather was spectacular, skies were blue, temperature ranged from 45-65F. Here is Linda looking at the vista above Grass Lake: We OWNED Rock Lake, where we set up camp. Not another soul was around to disturb the peace and serenity. Dave pumps water as the sun sets: Grass Lake formed a perfect mirror of the mountains on our way back to civilization: It was a very nice, relaxing few days! |
