Seems like we never post pictures of those miscellaneous, shorter events. Here they are! See below! CLICK ON PICS to ENLARGE. 02/09/02 Day hike at Sunol Regional Wilderness. This is another one of those great parklands: 10s of miles of undeveloped land that you would never guess is only 15 minutes drive from Suburbia! Here's Nick, Sue, Linda, Gumby, Anne, and Wai at Little Yosemite: 03/30/02 This is our first Geocaching adventure! What is Geocaching?! First, you go to the website for clues and GPS coordinates to a 'cache' in an area you want to go hiking in. Then, using your GPS, you go off on a hike and try to find the cache. The cache usually contains a disposable camera, log book for you to read and add entries to, and 'treasure'. Read more about it at the Geocaching website. 04/07/02 This is Dave at his first Solo II Autocross, taking a turn at 45mph. Autocrosses are timed races thru a twisting, coned-off course. You are ranked against other vehicles in your Category (DS) and modification level (stock)...I did okay for my first day at it... Autocross is definitely a great way to learn how to handle your car precisely and push it to its limits! The WRX accelerates and handles very well, but the stock tires aren't so hot... 05/04/02 Maria Chan was born today! Carlton & Regina are happy to have the 1st girl baby amongst the 8 boys of the next generation Chan Clan. 07/04/02 We celebrated Independence Day this year by attending a BBQ where we blew up illegal fireworks! It was dah Bomb! In August, 2002, Dave got the ol' 1/10 scale nitromethane-powered radio-control buggies fired up. They'd been neglected for a coupla years, but ran fine. Wai and Dave and Linda proceeded to inadvertantly ram them at high-speed against immovable objects, such as parking lot curbs...total damage was only $5 and half-an-hour of repair time... In August, Andrew got a 1/18 scale electric radio-control HPI Racing Micro RS4. Of course, Dave & Wai had to also get Micro RS4s so there could be a proper race and demolition derby! Andrew got a Nissan Skyline, Dave a Dodge Viper, and Wai a Mercedes CLK. Wai exhibited the most driving skills. Andrew exhibited the most demolition 'skills'. 10/20/02 Sabrina, a fellow competitor on Escape From Experiment Island, came to visit N. California. We took her and boyfriend Ed to Big Trees & Roaring Camp for a ride thru the Redwoods: Sabrina & Ed, and Shapoor & Anja & Linda & Dave: Then we went for a "sunset/moonlight paddle" which, due to it being completely fogged in, was more of a mysterious night paddle thru the darkness! There were harbor seals, sea otters, egrets & many other types of birds that we could see just before it turned inky black: 10/26/02 Linda and Dave dressed up as Dalmations for a big Halloween party at Shapoor's house. 11/03/02 We visited a restored Nike Missile Site in the Marin Headlands. These nuclear-tipped missiles had a range of 50 miles and were the very last line of defense against Russian nuclear bomber planes during the Cold War. 11/03/02 Pigeon Point Lighthouse, north of the Golden Gate Bridge in the Marin Headlands: 11/10/02 We visited Ano Nuevo to check out the elephant seals. Apparently, these are the 'little guys' who only weigh 1000 lbs or so. In January, the big 4000-5000 pounders come in to fight and establish a harem. 11/16/02 We gathered people up for a hot pot party, where you cook everything for yourself at the table. It is a fun, social, and tasty dinner! 12/08/02 We rode the Holiday Lights Train down in Santa Cruz with Eileen & Henry, and Lynn & Brian: 12/14/02 Linda went to San Diego for an AAO conference. I joined her for the weekend. We checked out San Diego Wild Animal Park, which has a great new Africa section, and Torrey Pines SP. We stayed at Deanna and Keith's huge new house: 12/20/02 We checked out the very impressive Walnut Creek Model Railroad Society HO scale layout: 12/28/02 Linda, Dave, Mark, Nick, and Wai went to the brand new indoor kart racing track near our house. Nick beat the rest with his skilled driving: 12/31/02 Brian and Linh hosted a great New Year's party at their house. Wai made his famous flaming shots: |
