This page updated on Labor Day, 2003 (kitchen remodel) Click to see other house pics and info
We liked our new house, but knew that we really wanted a modern kitchen, and an updated sunken livingroom. Both were functional, but kinda '70s, so we decided to upgrade right away so we could enjoy their use. See below for the changes we've made: KITCHEN REMODEL As of Labor Day, 2003, the kitchen remodel is nearly finished! Tile flooring, paint, and buying/hooking up new appliances are all that remain! See the progression below: BEFORE. Basic, usable kitchen:
Cabinets being built in shop:
DEMOLITION!!! NO kitchen. Began eating out or via Coleman stove or Weber grill starting July 26th.
Window ripped out:
New bay window, granite countertop, and maple cabinets (uhh, too lazy to color-correct that 1st pic):
Now we're going to be too poor to cook anything but Ramen and toast in our gourmet kitchen ;) SUNKEN LIVINGROOM REMODEL As of late May, 2003, the sunken livingroom has finished its transformation! The seating is built-in and was covered with lovely green shag carpet and carpet padding. Bleah. As you can see, it was replaced by nice upholstery fabric and wood drawers & trim, an amazing custom job done by Jason and Shann of Black Cat Upholstery. Then came the install of cable lighting and a full surround sound home theater system. See the progression below:
We've replaced just about every light fixture and lightswitch in the house, and added X10 automated/remote lighting control to 8 or 10 circuits. Yep, those green glass bubbles in the livingroom were byoo-tee-full...but we figured we'd go for something more modern than the 70s:
